SUMMARY:Even Federal Elections are not ‘Federal’ - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:State and local governments run elections – even federal elections. The U.S. Constitution’s Elections Clause provides that each state prescribes the times\, place\, and manner for elections in that state for Congress. And the Electoral College gives each state authority to define how electors from that state cast their votes for President and Vice President. Of course\, the Constitution and federal statutes can impose some limits on how elections work – for example through the Voting Rights Act – but\, ultimately\, the authority for federal elections rests with state legislatures and the work of administering them is done by local election officials. Join Colorado Supreme Court Justice Melissa Hart (ret.) for this primer on how elections are actually run pursuant to constitutional law.
