Michael Dougherty, the Boulder County district attorney and a candidate for Colorado attorney general, was honored with the Active Ally Award by YWCA Boulder County at its

annual Better Because of Her Luncheon. The award recognizes individuals who advance justice, dignity and opportunity through community-focused leadership and advocacy.
Dougherty was recognized for his tenure as district attorney since 2018, during which he has led initiatives aimed at strengthening public safety and supporting victims. His efforts include launching Colorado’s first Hate Crimes Initiative, establishing a Mental Health Diversion Program and creating the state’s first Domestic Violence Acute Response Team. He has also worked with LGBTQ+ leaders and other Front Range communities to build trust in the justice system and address disparities. Dougherty previously served as Colorado’s deputy attorney general and a deputy chief in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
The luncheon honors leaders working to advance equity and expand opportunity across Boulder County.
