5 Questions with Greg Ramos of Armstrong Teasdale

This week’s 5Q features Greg Ramos, a partner in the Mergers and Acquisitions practice group at Armstrong Teasdale.  Greg has more than 25 years of experience helping companies large and small execute on their strategic vision through mergers and acquisitions, strategic business transactions, corporate reorganization and succession planning.

Question 1: Early-bird or night-owl lawyer?
Ramos: I have lived through over 20,000 sunrises, and I have seen nearly every one, so I would have to go with early-bird. That said, I have certainly had many days in the practice where the early-bird transitions straight into night-owl.

Q2: Briefs: Paper or digital?
Ramos: With all due respect (and apologies) to the forest, I am a 100% paper kind of guy. It can make for a heavy briefcase, but there is no more comprehensive way to review and revise a document than on paper.

Q3: What’s the best career advice that you’ve received?
Ramos: Only work for people that you like. You will be more engaged, care more about the client, and be a happier person.

Q4: What’s something you know now that you wish you’d known when you began practicing?
Ramos: It’s a long game. Nobody achieves success overnight. It takes hard work, persistence, and patience.

Q5: What’s one case or moment that shaped your career?
Ramos: In 1999, when I was a senior associate, I was the lead draftsperson on a very complicated M&A transaction involving three separate telecommunications companies, $2BB in assets, and one of the five richest men in the world at the time. It was perhaps the hardest I’ve ever worked on a deal, but led to a successful result for all parties and a partnership for me at one of Denver’s largest firms. I was ultimately hired by one of the opposing parties and embarked on a decades-long career as a telecom lawyer. I still represent that client today.
