
Gov. Jared Polis appointed V. William Scarpato III to the 2nd Judicial District Court. The appointment fills a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Bruce A. Jones and is effective Jan. 13, 2027.
Scarpato is senior litigation counsel and an assistant U.S. attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado, positions he has held since 2025 and 2020, respectively. His practice consists primarily of civil litigation.
Previously, Scarpato was an associate attorney at Wheeler Trigg O’Donnell LLP from 2017 to 2020 and at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP from 2015 to 2017. He also served as a law clerk to Judge Harvey Bartle III of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania from 2013 to 2015.
Scarpato earned his bachelor’s degree from Pomona College in 2008 and his law degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law in 2013.
