Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck announced new leadership roles for its National Tax Group, naming tax policy shareholder Russ Sullivan and corporate tax shareholder Andrew Elliott as co-chairs of the firm’s nationwide tax practice.

Sullivan, based in Washington, D.C., will continue to lead Brownstein’s federal tax policy efforts. Elliott, based in Denver, will oversee the corporate and transactional tax components of the practice. Together, they will oversee the firm’s approach to tax strategy, policy advocacy, regulatory engagement, transactional tax planning and advice, employee benefits and executive compensation, litigation and controversy support.

“This leadership structure reflects the evolution of our clients’ needs and the sophistication required to navigate today’s tax landscape,” said Rich Benenson, Brownstein’s managing partner. “Russ and Andrew each bring deep subject-matter expertise, and under their direction we’re strengthening our ability to deliver sharper insight, faster collaboration and a national approach to tax law and policy. For decades, Brownstein has distinguished itself by integrating top-tier policy and legal talent into teams that enable us to develop strategies and drive outcomes that many firms simply can’t match.”

The firm’s National Tax Group advises clients including private equity sponsors, portfolio companies, higher education institutions, financial services firms, family-owned businesses, nonprofits, real estate groups, multinational corporations and industry coalitions.

“Clients rely on us to help them anticipate what’s coming out of Washington and translate that into a meaningful, proactive strategy, not surprises,” said Sullivan. “I’m excited to help expand a platform that integrates policy intelligence and advocacy with the technical execution businesses need for efficient decision-making.”

Elliott said the leadership structure brings the firm’s tax capabilities under a single team.

“Our business clients operate in an environment where tax legislation, regulation and transactional execution are continually influencing one another,” he said. “This combined practice strengthens our ability to support clients at every stage—from evaluating policy risks to developing tax planning strategies around business transactions.”
