CDLA/CTLA Professionalism Event
CDLA/CTLA Professionalism event honoring award winners Emily Swanson from Lasater and Martin, as well as CTLA member Tim Galluzzi of CGH Injury Lawyers.
Following the presentation of the awards, Federal Court Judge S. Cato Crews will introduce Federal Court Magistrate Judge Maritza Dominguez Braswell, a nationally recognized judicial expert on the impact of AI in the Federal Courts. This CLE will cover:
Colorado’s 2026 AI amendments to the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct to both acknowledge the use of AI in the legal field, and remind lawyers of their duties related to new technologies.
AI’s impact on work product and confidentiality. Judge Braswell will discuss the rules and doctrinal framework courts use to evaluate whether using an AI tool impacts work product protections, and how protective orders can address AI analysis of an opponent’s confidential discovery. She will also discuss the use of AI by parties and experts, and what lawyers should be thinking about as AI is increasingly integrated into various workflows.
Access to justice. Many self-represented litigants already use AI to prepare filings. Judge Braswell will discuss what that means for courts and lawyers litigating against pro se parties, as well as the access to justice implications of this shifting landscape.
Judge Braswell’s AI Guidance. Judge Braswell has chosen not to issue a standing order on AI and does not require lawyers to disclose their AI use. Instead, she provides guidance and educational information on her court page. She will explain why she chose guidance over directives and walk through the key points of that guidance for practitioners.
