Bridal shop owner pleads guilty to employment tax crimes

Donna Savoy, owner of Donna Beth Creations, a bridal studio in Denver, has pleaded guilty to willfully failing to account for and pay over employment taxes withheld from employees’ wages for more than 10 years, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

According to court documents, Savoy withheld Social Security, Medicare and federal income taxes from employees between the first quarter of 2014 and the fourth quarter of 2024 but failed to remit those funds to the IRS or file the required quarterly employment tax returns. Prosecutors say she used the money for personal and business expenses, causing a tax loss to the United States exceeding $1.3 million.

Savoy pleaded guilty to one count of willful failure to account for and pay over trust fund taxes. She is scheduled to be sentenced June 15, and faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison. IRS Criminal Investigation investigated the case, and the Justice Department’s Tax Division prosecuted it.
