EIP has promoted Callum Docherty to principal in recognition of his leadership in the firm’s international patent practice as well as his contributions to its U.S. team. Based in EIP’s Denver office, Docherty is a UK and European patent attorney, a registered U.S. patent agent and a UPC representative with more than 10 years of experience drafting and prosecuting patents across advanced technologies including AI, machine learning, autonomous systems, semiconductors, photonics and quantum computing. His cross‑jurisdictional practice spans the requirements of both U.S. and European patent offices.
Docherty’s scientific background, which includes a Ph.D. in condensed matter physics from the University of Oxford and postdoctoral research on novel materials, supports his work on technically complex inventions. He advises clients on strategy and execution from initial filings through oppositions and appeals, serving a diverse set of innovators seeking protection in multiple jurisdictions.
The promotion underscores EIP’s expanding presence in the United States, anchored by its Denver office, to enhance access to global patent strategy and prosecution expertise.
