
Federal prosecutors in Colorado have charged two non-emergency medical transportation providers in separate indictments. The charges allege more than $4 million in fraudulent Medicaid billing for rides that did not occur or were not medically necessary.
In U.S. District Court filings, Ashley Marie Stevens of Mesa County is accused of billing over $1 million under a fictitious company name, including thousands of dollars for rides for herself and family members lacking corresponding medical appointments and claims for extreme daily mileage.
In a separate case, Wesam Yassin of Douglas County allegedly submitted roughly $3.3 million in questionable claims, including billing for hundreds of thousands of dollars in trips after a beneficiary’s death. The charges include wire fraud, healthcare fraud and money laundering. The cases were announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado with assistance from the FBI and the Department of Health and Human Services.
