Polis Appoints Kelley Southerland to the 17th Judicial District Court

Gov. Jared Polis on Aug. 2 appointed Kelley Southerland to fill the vacancy on the 17th Judicial District Court, covering Adams and Broomfield counties. The vacancy is created by the retirement of Judge Katherine Delgado, effective Jan. 10, 2023. 

Southerland is a magistrate in the 17th Judicial District, a position she’s held since 2017. Her docket consists of domestic relations and juvenile matters. According to the announcement, she was the owner of Kelley R. Southerland, LLC from 2008 to 2017 and from 2002 to 2003; a partner at Radley & Southerland, LLC from 2011 to 2017; an associate at Beck, Jonson, and Nolan, LLP from 2006 to 2008; an associate at Katherine Karuschkat, LLC from 2004 to 2006; an associate at Kaplan Law, LLC from 2003 to 2004; and a law clerk at Hannon Law Firm from 2001 to 2002. 


Southerland earned her bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan College in 1992 and her J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2000.
