Poll: Majority favor lower tariffs, agree with Supreme Court ruling

A recent Economist/YouGov survey shows a majority of Americans support lowering tariffs and approve of the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down many of the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. Roughly 57% expressed approval versus 23% expressing disapproval.

The poll also found strong bipartisan sentiment that presidents should not impose tariffs without congressional authorization and significant opposition to efforts to reinstate similar tariffs under alternative legal authorities. Majorities believe tariff levels have increased consumer prices, and fewer respondents favor raising tariffs than lowering them.
