Week of Dec. 10-16, 2024

In a unanimous decision, the U.S. Supreme Court held that revoking an approved visa petition based on a sham-marriage determination by the Secretary of Homeland Security is the kind of discretionary decision that strips federal courts of jurisdiction to review certain actions. Also this week, the Supreme Court heard arguments on a rail project that would transport millions of barrels of crude oil through Colorado. The issue at the center of the arguments was a NEPA review that was invalidated by the D.C. Circuit. Law Week also covered the ABA 2024 Profile of the Legal Profession, which seemed to spotlight the continued growth of women in law — who now outnumbered men as associates at law firms for the first time.
