Biden Makes BLM Pick
President Joe Biden last week nominated former senior advisor at the National Wildlife Federation Tracy Stone-Manning to lead the Bureau of Land Management. Beyond confirmation, Stone-Manning might see a return of the BLM to Washington, D.C., and will have a few land use lawsuits to address.

What’s Next for the Public Option Bill
Democratic state lawmakers are expected to move forward this week with their public option bill, even though some key issues are still up in the air.

Supreme Court Rules on Medicaid Fraud
The Colorado Supreme Court last week ruled on a Medicaid fraud case, though some of the court’s justices expressed concern about “draconian” consequences of the majority decision.

Drug Dealer Found Guilty for Causing Death
For the first time in Colorado, a drug dealer has been convicted of causing a person’s death with fentanyl pills disguised to look like prescription painkillers.

Licensing Department Approves Common Consumption
Denver’s city licensing department last week adopted rules that would allow for people to bring alcohol from one place to another within common consumption areas. The rules now go to the City Council for approval.

SCOTUS to Hear Second Amendment Case
The U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear a case that questions whether the Second Amendment protects the right to carry a handgun outside the home.

Donor Disclosure Goes to Supreme Court
And this week, the high court will hear arguments in a First Amendment case dealing with a challenge to California’s donor disclosure rule, which requires charities and nonprofits to provide the state attorney general’s office with the names and addresses of their largest donors.

NACCP Challenges DOJ Grants
The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund is calling on the DOJ to affect local police departments’ behavior by suspending grants to local law enforcement until the attorney general is sure no federal taxpayer money is funding police departments that engage in discrimination.

Bar Pass Rates Increase
The ABA found that bar exam pass rates for first-time and second-time test-takers went up after last July’s (mostly) remote bar exams.
