Otteson Shapiro Adds One Attorney, Chalat Hatten Banker Shareholder Transitions to Of Counsel

Law Firm Updates

Otteson Shapiro LLP announced Lauren Brown joined the firm’s Denver office as an associate attorney. Brown has corporate business experience and has worked on both legal and non-legal aspects of business transactions. She focuses on mergers and acquisitions, real estate, securities compliance, joint ventures and other strategic transactions and initiatives, including private equity transactions and debt acquisition. Brown worked as an investment product specialist in the Denver office of a national financial services company. Brown received her law degrees from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. 


Chalat Hatten Banker PC announced after 33 years as a shareholder, officer and director of the firm, Linda Chalat has withdrawn as a shareholder and is now of counsel. She will continue to work on selected matters for the office. Chalat received her law degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. 

The Judiciary

The 2nd Judicial District Nominating Commission will meet March 5 to interview and select nominees for appointment by the governor to the office of the district judge on the Denver Juvenile Court. The vacancy was created by the retirement of Judge D. Brett Woods and occurred on Feb. 10. Applications are available here. The completed application must be e-mailed to [email protected] no later than 4 p.m. on Feb. 26. Late applications will not be considered. Any person wishing to suggest a candidate to fill the vacancy can send a letter to any member of the nominating commission, with a copy to the ex officio chair, no later than 4 p.m. on Feb. 20.

The 1st Judicial District Nominating Commission will meet April 2 to interview and select nominees for appointment by the governor to the office of district judge for the 1st Judicial District. The vacancy will be created by the retirement of Judge Ann Meinster and will occur on June 1. Applications are available here. The completed application must be e-mailed to [email protected] no later than 4 p.m. on March 22. Late applications will not be considered. Any person wishing to suggest a candidate to fill the vacancy may send a letter to any member of the nominating commission, with a copy to the ex officio chair, no later than March 15.

The 18th Judicial District Nominating Commission will meet April 5 to interview and select nominees for appointment by the governor to the office of county judge for Lincoln County. The vacancy will be created by the retirement of Judge Truston Fisher and will occur on June 1. Applications are available here. The completed application must be e-mailed to [email protected] no later than 4 p.m. on March 15. Late applications will not be considered. Any person wishing to suggest a candidate to fill the vacancy may send a letter to any member of the nominating commission, with a copy to the ex officio chair, no later than 4 p.m. on March 8.

Miscellaneous 

Davis Graham & Stubbs LLP’s employment and labor group is holding an informative session covering considerations and new developments regarding the following: artificial intelligence in the workplace; the U.S. Department of Labor’s final rule regarding the classification of independent contractors under the Fair Labor Standards Act, Colorado’s revised COMPS Order #39 and PAY CALC Order, new guidance regarding the Ensure Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and the Job Application Fairness Act and employment tax aspects of FAMLI benefits. The speakers for this event include Brett Painter, Peter Rose, Grace Diamond and Cait Stover. The session is pending approval for one general Continuing Legal Education credit.
