Davis Graham & Stubbs LLP announced Nov. 9 Samuel Goold joined the firm’s Business & Corporate Advisory Group. His practice will continue to focus on corporate governance, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and securities matters. Prior to joining DGS, Goold was an associate in the St. George, Utah, office of an international law firm. He is experienced in securities matters and has experience drafting and filing various SEC documents, including Forms F-4, S-1, S-3, S-8, 8-K, 10-Q and 10-K.


The Judiciary

The 4th Judicial District Nominating Commission has nominated three candidates for a district court judgeship created by the retirement of Judge Thomas Kane, effective Jan. 1, 2024. Nominees Hilary Gurney, Theodore McClintock and Amanda Philipps, all from Colorado Springs, were selected by the commission on Nov. 6. Under the Colorado Constitution, the governor has 15 days from Nov. 7 to appoint one of the nominees as district court judge for the Fourth Judicial District. The 14th Judicial District Nominating Commission has nominated three candidates for a district court judgeship created by the retirement of Judge Sandra Gardner, effective Jan. 1, 2024. Nominees Billy-George Hertzke of Oak Creek, Brittany Schneider of Craig and Erin Wilson of Steamboat Springs were selected by the commission on Nov. 7. Kelly Law Partners LLC announced Nov. 3 it was recognized in the 2024 edition of Best Law Firms, earning three tier 1 rankings regionally in Colorado for commercial litigation, labor and employment litigation and employment law (management).

Jackson Lewis PC announced Nov. 7 its Denver office has been recognized in the 2024 Best Law Firms list. The Denver office has earned a tier 1 regional designation for employment law (management) and labor and employment litigation. More than 80% of Jackson Lewis’ regional offices were recognized in tier 1 of the report’s regional rankings in various labor and employment categories. Wells, Anderson & Race LLC announced it was recognized in the 2024 edition of Best Law Firms. The firm was ranked regionally in Colorado in tier 1 for commercial litigation, insurance law, insurance litigation, labor and employment litigation, mass tort litigation/class actions (defendants), personal injury litigation (defendants) and product liability litigation (defendants). The firm was ranked regionally in Colorado in tier 3 for appellate practice and civil rights law. 

Richards Carrington, LLC announced its Denver office was recognized in the 2024 edition of Best Law Firms for commercial litigation and criminal defense (general practice). Christopher Carrington was recognized for commercial litigation, Doug Richards was recognized for criminal defense, and the firm’s partner George Newhouse in Los Angeles was recognized for criminal defense (white-collar).

McDermott Stuart & Ward LLP announced it was recognized in the 2024 edition of Best Law Firms. The firm was ranked regionally in Colorado in tier 1 for criminal defense (general practice), criminal defense (white collar) and personal injury litigation (plaintiffs).

Connelly Law LLC announced it was recognized in the 2024 edition of Best Law Firms. The firm was ranked nationally in tier 3 for appellate practice. It was recognized regionally in Colorado in tier 1 for appellate practice and criminal defense (white-collar) and in tier 2 for bet-the-company litigation.

BarrADR announced it was recognized in the 2024 edition of Best Law Firms. The firm was ranked regionally in tier 1 for arbitration and tier 2 for mediation.

Miscellaneous

Following the Colorado Judicial Institute gala dinner Thursday, Oct. 26, a CJI member was seriously injured in an auto-pedestrian hit-and-run incident. This hit-and-run incident occurred at the intersection of Colfax and Broadway while the member was walking across Colfax toward the Ralph Carr Center parking garage. If anyone witnessed this incident or can provide any information about the automobile involved, including license plate information, please contact Officer Brian Long, Denver Police Department, District 6, at (720) 913-2800.

Airbnb’s Chief Legal Officer Rich Baer announced he would retire after more than four years at the company. Baer served as Airbnb’s chief legal officer since 2019 and spent his entire professional career working in Colorado. In an email to Airbnb’s employees, Airbnb Co-Founder and CEO Brian Chesky said: “You learn a lot about people in a crisis, and what I learned about Rich is that he’s steady, unflappable, and always acts with the highest integrity. In 2020 alone, we made what felt like a decade’s worth of decisions, and without Rich’s steadiness, Airbnb wouldn’t have navigated the pandemic as effectively or had such a successful IPO…Beyond all of this, Rich is a caring leader who has championed diversity and belonging, mentored or sponsored numerous people, and built one of the best legal teams around.”
