Gov. Polis Appoints AG Phil Weiser to be State’s Prosecutor for 22nd Judicial District

Gov. Jared Polis on Feb. 25 issued an executive order appointing Attorney General Phil Weiser to be the state’s prosecutor in the 22nd Judicial District, covering Dolores and Montezuma counties, until a new district attorney is appointed.

Earlier this month, Polis appointed the DA for the 22nd Judicial District, Matthew Margeson, to the Dolores County Court and announced a panel to review applications and recommend finalists for the new DA.

The executive order goes into effect on Feb. 27 and remains effective until the governor selects a new DA for the 22nd Judicial District. The individual appointed will serve through the current term. The governor’s office noted the next election for the DA in the 22nd Judicial District will be the 2024 general election.
