Gov. Polis Appoints John Scott to the Lake County Court in the 5th Judicial District

Gov. Jared Polis on March 24 appointed John Scott to the Lake County Court in the 5th Judicial District, effective immediately. The vacancy was created by the appointment of Judge Jonathan Shamis to the 5th Judicial District Court last month. 

Scott has been a solo practitioner since 2003. His practice consists primarily of criminal defense, according to the announcement. 


Previously, he was an attorney with Rothgerber, Johnson & Lyons LLP in 2003, counsel for the U.S. Government military trial courts from 2007 to 2010, an inspector-instructor at Buckley Air Force Base from 2005 to 2006, a senior prosecutor for the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in 2004, an attorney with Berger Financial Group, Inc. from 2002 to 2003, an attorney with Meridian Investment Management Corp. from 2000 to 2002, an attorney with Hall & Evans, LLC and Kennedy & Christopher, P.C. from 1998 to 2000), a military prosecutor for Camp Pendleton from 1996 to 1998 and a deputy director for the Joint Legal Assistance Office from 1995 to 1996. 

Scott earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado in 1987 and his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 1995.
