Lewis Roca Adds One, Judicial Department Announces Vacancy

Law Firm Updates

Eric Cheong joined Lewis Roca as of counsel in the firm’s intellectual property practice group in Denver, the firm announced Oct. 24. Cheong is a registered patent attorney with over 10 years of experience who has focused his practice on preparing and prosecuting patent applications. The University of Denver Sturm College of Law graduate has provided counseling, analyses and legal perspectives to clients on patentability. 


The Judiciary 

Gov. Jared Polis appointed Magistrate Matthew Zehe to the Larimer County Court in the 8th Judicial District filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Mary Joan Berenato. Zehe, a University of Denver Sturm College of Law graduate, has been a district court magistrate in the 8th Judicial District since 2006 where his docket consists mostly of juvenile matters. 

The Colorado Judicial Department announced Oct. 27 that the 5th Judicial District Nominating Commission will meet at the Eagle County Justice Center Nov. 23 to select nominees for appointment to the office of county judge for Eagle County. The position, created by the Nov. 1 appointment of Judge Rachel Olguin-Fresquez to district court, can be filled by a qualified elector of Eagle County and admitted to practicing law. Applications for the position are due by Nov. 14. 

Kudos 

Norm Brownstein, founder and chairman of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, was awarded the National Law Journalism Lifetime Achievement Award on Oct. 20. At the awards ceremony, attorneys were recognized for high-stakes litigations, cutting-edge approaches, social and corporate governance issues and diversity initiatives.
